Greg Mortimer’s public spaces:
Beautiful and modern, the ship is very easy to get around. The lounges are great places to hang out, with comfortable seating surrounded by windows. If you need to get away from it all, the library and sauna are also very nice places to retreat to and re-charge your battery. The presentation room has plenty of room for all of the guests with 24 hour coffee, tea and cookies. The gym is very spacious with nice windows.
I was in a Balcony Stateroom B. This is a lovely cabin with lots of space and storage. There are two chairs and small table along with a chair in front of the desk area. The bathroom is very spacious.
New X-Bow design:
I realize the X-Bow is not intended to “cure” seasickness but it does minimize the pitch (up and down movement) of the ship when going into the waves. The ship does still roll, but was quite stable during the sea passages. It was amazing how smooth the ship was going through the sea ice.
Adventure Options (subject to availability at the time of booking & some have an additional cost):
So many activities to choose from! On my voyage optional activities included: snowshoeing, skiing, snorkeling, camping and kayaking. This is all in addition to the regularly included landings & Zodiac cruises.
I was fortunate enough to have the opportunity to kayaking and snorkel; what an experience! The floating deck on the aft of the ship made getting into and out of the kayaks from the ship very easy.
Kayaking does require previous experience, but paddling in Antarctica is amazing.
Although the snorkeling was cold, it was an incredible experience. The only requirement is being a good swimmer.
The food is amazing! Breakfast and lunch are buffet-style with many options. Dinner is by menu choice, and my favorite. There are great selections, nice size portion sizes and the food is absolutely delicious!
The new ship Greg Mortimer exceeded my expectations from the design, comfort, amenities, food, program and expedition staff.
